Why Fasteners Fail in Service and Fastener Standards 101: Industrial Version Co-Produced by Industrial Fasteners Institute and Fastener Training Institute Date: October 21 and October 22 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST Location: IFI Headquarters 6363 Oak Tree Blvd Independence, OH Course Details Why Fasteners Fail in Service: Monday, October 21 This class will explore how and why fasteners fail in service. Participants will first gain a fundamental understanding of failure mechanics - specifically the difference between brittle and ductile failure. With this foundation set, common fastener failure modes such as overload, progressive failures like fatigue and creep, corrosion, and hydrogen embrittlement will be discussed. In addition to the basic engineering and mechanics of failure, this course includes case studies which illustrate how these issues occur in the real world. Understanding these mechanisms will give participants a greater perspective about the criticality of properly designed, installed and utilized fasteners. Understanding potential failures is important for identifying and preventing failures in the future. Who should Attend This course offers a simple but comprehensive look at why fasteners fail. It is appropriate for anyone with an interest or focus on fastener engineering, design and manufacturing. COURSE DETAILS Fastener Standards 101: Industrial Version: Tuesday, October 22 This class will help educate and familiarize participants on Fastener Standards such as ASME, ASTM, and SAE, and will explore how these standards are developed and amended. Participants will learn the differences between product and material standards and how to find the right standard and navigate through it. This class will also review a selection of standards that provide guidance on a variety of thorny issues experienced by fastener suppliers and users. WHO SHOULD ATTEND Quality Engineering Technical Sales Quoting Anyone who would like to know more about fasteners and the industry This course is designed for individuals who uses fastener standards.
